Harley Builds 3-wheel Motorcycles – Harley Magazine Review of the 2009 Tri-glide
The rumor mill never seems to slow down when it comes to Harley-Davidson and its future bikes. I guess that kind of passion and curiosity is what drives the MoCo. The rumor of a factory Harley-Davidson trike making a comeback after more than three decades is true. The new Tri Glide Ultra Classic will be available at your local Harley dealer in limited numbers as a 2009 model.
Let’s start with what the machine is and isn’t. It is a genuine Harley-Davidson covered by a full factory 2 year warrantee. It is manufactured by Harley in association with Lehman Trikes of South Dakota. It lists for ,999 (in the US) and is available in the 48 contiguous US states and Canada. It is well engineered, looks good and is a blast to ride. It isn’t a warmed over Lehman trike. I don’t know why this project was internally nicknamed “Boomer” but it was, and now you know.
What’s involved in riding a trike verses a bike? Well, let’s just say that they are exactly the same only different. Quite different. Same throttle, clutch, shifter and brakes. But the handling is more like a car because trikes don’t lean, they steer around turns. So get used to pulling on one side of the handlebars and pushing on the other through the turns. And, thanks to all the extra weight out back, you’ll have to slip the clutch a bit more and give it a bit more throttle coming off a stop than with a bike. Plus you can keep your feet on the floorboards all the time, even at a full stop. And always remember that your machine is a lot wider than a bike, even a bagger, when going through narrow spaces. And just because you missed the pothole in the road with your front tire doesn’t mean you’ll miss it with your rear ones. And. . . well you get the idea. Trikes and bikes are simply different.
Out on the road the Tri Glide is impressive. I have ridden several old and new trikes over the years and feel this is the best of the breed. Superior handling, a healthy power train and top notch fit and finish – and this was on a pre-production model! The low and high speed handling is more neutral than I expect from a trike. I suspect the purpose-build frame and specific fork geometry and rear suspension has a lot to do with that. Once you get used to slipping the clutch slightly from a dead stop and push/pull steering on the handlebars, riding the Tri Glide is a blast. I predict these machines will sell out quickly with a waiting line once word is out on how much fun they are. Anyone who has ridden a two-wheel motorcycle will quickly take to the Tri Glide and will be confidently cruising the highways and slicing through zig zag turns on back roads in no time.
In our discussions with Harley’s marketing and engineering staff we heard how the main goal for the Tri Glide was “to extend riding access” which we took to mean extending the riding season (trikes handle better in snow, ice and rain than bikes do) as well as making people more comfortable riding a stable three-wheeler than a less stable two-wheeler. The Harley staffers told us their target customers tend to be more experienced riders. One of the senior people confided in us “A lot of people who try a Tri Glide for the first time are pleased and surprised with the ride.” After we put some miles on one we have to agree,
Unlike any other current model Harley-Davidson that I am aware of, the host portion of the new Tri Glides are built on a new assembly line in the York factory. It is then shipped to the Lehman factory in South Dakota to be finished. From there, the complete machines are shipped to Milwaukee where they are forwarded on to the dealer network. When we asked about the relationship between Lehman Trikes and Harley-Davidson we were told that Lehman is actively involved in the process, but the Harley Tri Glides are quite different than Lehman’s own Ultra-based trikes. While the Lehman version uses a modified stock Harley FL frame and one-piece rear body section, the Tri Glides use unique, purpose-built frames and separate rear body sections and fenders. Harley assured us the current association with Lehman is not based on a buy-out or a joint venture. Harley views Lehman as a supplier.
OK, so what else is unique or unusual about the Tri Glide? We have already touched on the specific-to-this-model frame with increased fork angle and less trail for better steering effort. It has an electronic hand control to activate the optional electric reverse motor. The front forks are longer than those on the two-wheel Ultras and have an external steering stabilizer for a more consistent ride.
The front wheel is a 16 inch hoop, the rears are 15 inchers. The wheels and brake rotors all match. Machines with this much weight need good brakes, and the front dual Brembos are up to the task. The 103 cubic inch engine mated with a heavy duty police-style clutch offers sufficient power to get down the road quite smartly. The Tri Glide has a unique transmission case and rear mounts are also different from the stock Harley Ultra two-wheel version. There is a standard oil cooler to help keep engine temperatures down, and the new for 2009 mufflers compliment the modified header pipes.
The Tour Pak is rated for up to 30 pounds of cargo, and the trunk, featuring hidden hinges and a lockable latch, can handle an additional 50 pounds in 4.3 cubic feet. We like the rear fenders are separate from the trunk and attached to it. Typically the trunk and rear fenders on most trikes are built as one unit making repairs or replacement quite expensive.
Apparently Harley management had been considering the possibility of adding a trike to the line-up for some time but there were many issues to deal with. These included safety concerns, marketing options, and manufacturing challenges. When we asked about the stability of a Tri Glide in various real world riding conditions, one of the Harley engineers responded by saying they designed it with several goals in mind. “We wanted it to slip” he said, “before it would tip.”
2 critical measures the trike had to pass were the lane change maneuver at highway speeds, and the steady state turn (in tight circles at increasing speeds). The trike accomplished both with room to spare. Harley management ok’d the project when they realized the Ultra-based Tri Glide can go faster and corner harder than a stock Harley Ultra motorcycle “so we felt a comfort zone there.”
All the 2009 Tri Glides will be based on Ultra Classics. But Harley isn’t saying whether this might change in the future to expand across other models using V-Rods, Dynas or Sportsters as the base. However, given the fact that Harley considers the Tri Glide a new separate model platform, I’d bet there are more variations in the works. Personally, I’d like to see a water-cooled V-Rod powered trike.
Harley is planning on building only 2500 Tri Glides for 2009 in three color options – Vivid Black, Dark Blue Pearl or Red Hot Sunglo, and plans are for them to be available in Harley dealerships in August 2008. MSRP is ,999, which is significantly less than a similar Lehman Harley Ultra, and the Tri Glide comes with a 2-year factory warrantee. Want one? Better get your name and deposit to your dealer ASAP. They are going to go fast.

Term Papers: Writing on Sociology
Are you unclear on where to begin on writing term papers on sociology? Not well versed enough with the subject matter at hand? If history is a lesson which would teach us to emulate the great leaders of yesteryear and learn from their mistakes, we have to take the first step, which is to learn.
Researching the internet, reviewing professional publications and texts from your local library will not help you much if you do not wish to learn. Writing term papers on sociology comes naturally to those who are knowledgeable with their chosen subject matter and the topic at hand.
Writing about an individual or a group of people requires simply an analytical approach and review of the biography of the person(s) involved. Another idea is to review a professionally published and write a critical analysis on it. Researching published facts and writing a review will prove to be an easy task for any American student.
Term papers on sociology can be about theories developed and recorded by experts. Most courses on sociology require that the students compile a study based on previously published articles, books, journals, etc. Using the concepts published therein and testing them on present settings and situations. An in-depth analysis of the concepts first and the situation to be reviewed second, lead to a great written report.
All the ideas listed above are only a general indication of the requirements of this course in relation to various principles, disciplines, development peculiarities and a number of sociological issues.

Hair Piece Repair: Secrets They Don’t Want You to Know

Hair Piece Repair: Secrets They Don’t Want You to Know
Hair piece repair. You may be familiar with the term. Have you ever gotten a small tear in your hairpiece, and wondered why you had to discard a perfectly good hair piece full of hair? Has your hair replacement provider ever told you that your hair piece was too badly damaged to fix? Ever wish you could get a little extra hair added to that old favorite hair system of yours? The truth is: you can!
You see, hair pieces are actually very easy to repair. Rips and tears in a base can easily be patched or repaired, hair can be added to areas where it has been thinning, and lace fronts and tape tabs can be replaced. If you actually knew the severity of some of the damaged hair pieces that have been successfully been repaired, you would probably be disgusted that your current hair replacement company has kept you in the dark on how easy and cost effective it can be to repair a hair piece.
The secret they donât want you to know
Letâs face it, AT LEAST 99% of our competitors do not want you to know that hair piece and wig repair really works. Other companies donât have to repair your hair piece, they think they can simply tell you the piece is irreparable and youâll have no choice but to order a new one. In fact, hair piece repair is so effective and cheap, it could potentially put some of our competitors out of business. They need to keep selling expensive hair systems to stay in business, and every time they repair a hair piece, thatâs one less sale of a brand new piece at full price. In reality, 75% of all hair repairs can easily be performed for under 0.00. Some things, like replacing a lace front for example, may be slightly more expensive, yet still pale in comparison to the price of buying a brand new unit. Chances are, if your hair replacement company is charging over 0 for a standard hair piece repair, or they tell you your hair piece cannot be repaired, most likely they arenât being straight with you!
Next time youâve got a hair piece that needs some work done, donât throw it away! A simple search for âHair Piece Repairâ should get you headed in the right direction. There are some companies that are truthful with their customers, and wonât just try to upsell you on a new hair piece. Hair piece repair can save you lots of money every year, especially if youâre wearing custom hair. Cut down on the number of hair pieces you purchase annually by simply sending old pieces in to be repaired. Generally the process is both quick and effective.
Hair-necessities has provided hair piece repair services directly to consumers for years, and is an online leader in the hair replacement industry. Visit www.hair-necessities.com to learn more about the variety of hair pieces available online and believe it or not, no matter how bad you think your hair piece is damaged, we can probably repair it for 75 bucks â and it doesnât cost you anything to find out!
Do I Need A New Sky Remote?

Do I Need A New Sky Remote?
Most people that own a Sky box will know that the Sky remote control operates the basic functions of their TV, what happens though if the remote stops operating the TV but still operates the Sky digibox… is it time to get a new one?
Well to be honest, in some cases yes a replacement remote is required, but more often than not all you need to do is re-enter the correct Sky remote code to operate your particular brand of TV, this would have originally been done by the Sky engineer when he/she installed the system.
Early remotes manufactured for Sky were done so with a preset code already programmed to operate Sony TVs, later models were manufactured to work straight out the box on a Philips TV. This is the same no matter if it is a standard Sky remote for the Sky box, a Sky plus remote for the Sky plus box or the Sky HD remote for the HD box.
So, to make things simple without going in to whether or not your remote is an early or late version the best thing to do is re-enter the correct code for your TV, even if it’s a Sony or Philips.
Don’t forget it is only the basic functions of the TV the remote will operate, this includes functions such as volume control, putting the TV in to standby and cycling through the AV channels of the TV by pressing the “Help” button on the remote.
The list of codes available for the Sky remote is extremely long so I would suggest taking a look at the Sky digital support section at http://www.thedigiboxshop.com, here you will find the most common codes as well as the instructions below, if the codes available at the above Website do not work you can perform a search for your brand of TV by pressing the “Sky Interactive” button on your remote.
Please note: The following instructions are relevant to all Sky remotes, including the “Plus” and “HD” versions.
How to enter the four digit code.
1. Turn your Sky Box, Sky Plus Box or Sky HD Box and TV on.
2. Press TV on your Sky / Sky Plus / Sky HD remote control.
3. Hold down SELECT and the RED button together for about two seconds, until the RED LED on the Sky / Sky Plus / Sky HD remote control blinks twice.
4. Press TV on the remote control again.
5. Key in the four digit code for your brand of TV. The light on the remote blinks twice. If the light blinks once only, recheck the code for your brand of TV and start again at Step 1.
6. Press the STANDBY button on your remote. If your TV switches off, press select. The RED LED on the remote blinks twice (code stored). If your TV does not switch off, press TV, then press the STANDBY button. Repeat this (press TV, then STANDBY) until your TV turns off, then press SELECT (stores code).
If at this point the RED LED on the remote control blinks three times then all possible codes for that make of receiver have been checked. Repeat from step one, ensuring that you enter the correct manufacturer code.
At the end of the sequence, if you see the TV Guide screen, the remote control setup process is complete. If you did not see the TV Guide screen, you must now complete the following steps.
8. Press TV on your Sky / Sky Plus Sky HD remote control.
9. Hold down SELECT and the GREEN button together for about two seconds, until the RED LED on the remote blinks twice.
10. Key in the number of the channel on your TV that you use for watching Sky TV.
11. Press SELECT on your remote. The RED LED blinks twice. The remote control setup process is complete.
How to enter the three digit code
1. Turn your Sky Box, Sky Plus Box or Sky HD Box and TV on.
2. Press TV on the Sky / Sky Plus / Sky HD remote.
3. Hold down SELECT and the RED button together for approximately two seconds until the RED LED on the remote blinks twice.
4. Enter one of the three digit codes from the list (early versions now flash twice).
5. Press SELECT to confirm, the RED LED will flash twice if a valid code has been entered
6. Now press the STANDBY button and test other functions.
7. Repeat if necessary until the correct code is found.
If once you have entered all the codes from the list the remote still fails to operate your TV then you should consider purchasing a new remote as the remotes are continually being updated to operate the later TVs being produced.

Die Cuts Are Hard To Find

Die Cuts Are Hard To Find
I have been scrapbooking for about 22 years. I started when my daughter was around three years old. At that time scrapbook die cuts or any other type of embellishments where just not around or very hard to find. It’s a lot of fun for me to see how my children’s books have evolved over the many years. My two oldest children’s baby books are very simple and plain. I used colored markers to border the pages or draw dots and swirls just to add color. Did they even make illustrated diecuts in 1986?
There are thousand and thousands of products for scrapbookers to purchase and use today. I am always looking for items that are inexpensive and cute. I always make sure that the products I buy are acid-free, so that our memories are preserved correctly. I love using die cuts. They are a great simple embellishment that help me to scrapbook quickly. I’m not one that can speed hours on a single scrapbooking page, because of the fact: each of my children have their own scrapbooks. (“yes” books with an “s”.) I was thrilled when my daughter was old enough to take over her own scrapbook. So, right now I am doing 5 scrapbooks. One for each of my four boys and one for my husband and me. (“Yes” I am behind by a couple of years, but that’s another story. I will get caught up I always do.)
Anyway……. I enjoy using diecuts that I’ve purchased at “fair-type” events. I have found that using die cuts is a “speedy-fast” way to construct creative scrapbook pages.
However….I have found that finding them at craft stores is getting harder and harder, if not impossible. I asked an employee once and was told that “the personal diecut machine has taken over that market.” I do own one but, nothing can take the place of a cute illustrated die cut and they are so much FASTER to use!
I started looking on-line to purchase some and everything I found was UGLY! “OK” my exact words…”butt ugly!” Old school that were just the shape of an object. YUCK!
Then to make matters worse, when you use a search engine and type in “scrapbooking die cuts” you get hundreds of sites claiming they carry them. PROBLEM is you can’t find them!! I am forever getting lost in on-line scrapbook supply stores? (“Yes” I’ve lost my parked car before too!) They carry everything but the kitchen sink! And most of the time I don’t even find diecuts they claim they have on their site, if by chance I do…UGLY!
So…This is how No Ugly Die Cuts became my reality. We are a growing Internet business dedicated to your total satisfaction. We pride ourselves in having a very user friendly website. Our site is simple to navigate that anyone can use it. You know what you’re looking for and now you can find it! Along with die cuts we carry cut-outs, diecuts with matching frames, headers, mini die cuts and borders. We promise you:low prices, no minimum order, free shipping inside the USA, and a free die cut with your order.
Ultimately, however we offer exactly what today’s scrapbooker and crafter wants the most:the best die cuts at the best prices! Giant Snowblowers: Say Goodbye to Heavy Snow
Jul 9th
Giant Snowblowers: Say Goodbye to Heavy Snow
Giant snowblowers are must-haves during the winter season especially if you live in an area where snowfall is quite heavy. These giant snow machines are powerful workers that will not be easily intimidated by even deep and heavy snow coverage that exceeds 12 inches in depth. They can tackle even the heaviest snow jobs and plow through even the deepest snow. If you have major snow clearing needs, you should check out some of the giant snowblowers around.
What Giant Snowblowers Should Be
The giant snowblowers have certain requirements to make sure that they are well-built for the task they are meant for. One of the most important things about giant snowblowers is the engine. Large snow machines should be equipped with engines that are at par with their large sizes. If not, the large sizes would be useless as the engine is unable to meet the power required by heavy duty snow work. There are good engines that are often used in manufacturing excellent and high-grade snow blowers, such as Tecumseh and Briggs and Stratton engines. Such engines are equipped with optimum power and are very durable and thus ensure the performance of the large snow blowers. If you hear the names Tecumseh and Briggs and Stratton when it comes to snow blower engines, you know you can rely on the performance of that snow equipment.
Aside from the engines, giant snowblowers should also have high snow clearing specifications. The factors you need to consider include the clearing width, intake height, and how far the snow is thrown. The clearing width affects how fast you can clear snow away from your driveway. Snowblowers with small clearing widths require more passes before they can get the work done. The intake height determines the depth of snow coverage that the snow blower can plow through and clear. The distance of the throw is also an important consideration. If you have a wide driveway, you need a snow machine that can throw snow a considerable distance to ensure that the snow will be effectively cleared from your entire driveway. There are several top-rating giant models from top snow blower brands such as Troy Bilt and Toro that meet the following requirements soundly.
A Snow Giant: Toro Power Max
Giant snowblowers for homeowners are the two-stage heavy duty snowblowers, which are available from a lot of brands. Toro, as one of the biggest manufacturers of snow equipments, offers the heavy duty Toro Power Max model. The large snow machine looks ready for anything in the snow, and it definitely is. The good thing about this is that it can be easily maneuvered despite its large size. The machine features a Freewheel steering system for this as well as a Quick Stick chute control system. The Power Max system also lends the machine the necessary capability to handle large and heavy amounts of snow as fast as possible. Other features include electric starter, an auger gearcase, X-Trac tires, one-hand interlock, as well as reversible skid shoes to protect your driveway.
Heavy Duty YardMan Snow Machines
Aside from that, you should also check out the large snow blower series from other brands such as Simplicity and YardMan. YardMan offers an entire line of products under the Heavy Duty category, such as the H9JKI and the E9P3J, both with 16.5 GT 342cc OHV engines. The first has a clearing width of 33 inches, while the latter of 45 inches.
Large Frame and Signature Pro Series from Simplicity
Simplicity also offers its Large-Frame series and Signature Pro Commercial series, both of which include models that are large and can tackle heavy snow. The Large Frame machines come with all-steel chutes, Free Hand control, Easy Turn system, and prices at ,200 to ,050. The Signature Pro Commercial series adds the Snow Series MAX engines from Briggs and Stratton as well as heavy duty cast iron gear housings. The prices range from ,850 to ,700.
Pros: Giant snowblowers can tackle even heavy and deep snow coverage. Good models include some from
Cons: Be ready to spend a bit more for large-scale snow blowers.
The Verdict
If the snowfall and snow coverage in your area is heavy, buying giant snowblowers is a better option than buying a small or medium scale snow blower that won’t be up to the job at hand.

POWER OFF GRID: BENEFITS OF A POWER OFF GRID SYSTEM FOR YOUR HOME

POWER OFF GRID: BENEFITS OF A POWER OFF GRID SYSTEM FOR YOUR HOME
POWER OFF GRID: BENEFITS OF A POWER OFF GRID SYSTEM FOR YOUR HOME
Power off grid systems are generally utilized in remote locations without the benefit of a utility grid. The power off grid system can also be used in an area where furbishing a power line to the local utility grid is prohibitively expensive, or in an area where blackouts and/or brownouts are frequent. With an off grid solar power system, you would be able to provide the energy necessary to light up a cabin, home or business.
Power off grid systems comprehensively alleviate a home’s dependency on utility electrical grids. Usually, the power off grid systems require a higher initial investment than grid-tie systems. The difference is because there is a greater demand on the power off grid system. A grid-tie system usually supplements a home’s energy demands, which reduces the amount of energy required from the utility grid. In contrast, a power off grid system is responsible for providing all power to the household appliances and tools.
CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT POWER OFF GRID SYSTEMS
When designing a power off grid system, it is best to take a holistic approach and envision the completed project from a “big picture” perspective. This strategy is even necessary when deciding something as simple as the type of light bulbs that will be utilized. Standard incandescent lighting is extremely energy inefficient, and as such, you may want to consider fluorescent or LED lighting instead.
Power off grid systems are usually bigger than most grid-tie systems. For the power off grid system to be fully independent, a system must have a greater array of energy-producing panels, which in turn requires more batteries to store the charge and more equipment to regulate the charge. However, even though the power off grid system requires a bigger initial investment, in the long run, a power off grid system may save you thousands in energy costs.
CLICK HERE TO BUILD SOLAR POWER SYSTEMS
Here are the main components to a power off grid system:
(1) Solar Array: A Solar Array is a group of solar panels which absorb solar energy and convert this to DC power. The number and type of solar panels will determine how much energy you can produce, as will your geographic location.
(2) PV Combiner Box: The PV Combiner Box usually includes GFCIs which protect your solar power system from equipment damage caused by power surges and short circuits. You can also shut down your solar power system at a moment’s notice, allowing for safe maintenance, repair, and inspection.
(3) Charge Controller: Your batteries will accept all electrical current running from the solar array, but overcharging can ruin them. Charge controllers ensure batteries don’t receive current when they’re charged to capacity, protecting your investment.
(4) DC Breaker Box: The DC Breaker Box includes a disconnect which will regulate the relationship between the battery bank and the inverter so it can be shut down at a moment’s notice to replace, repair, or inspect the batteries safely.
(5) Battery Bank: Batteries store the energy you collect through your array. Power off grid systems must collect enough energy to power your home or business until your batteries can be charged again.
(6) Inverter: Inverters take DC power and convert it to AC power. Most electrical systems (like that found in your home) run off of AC power.
(7) Back-up Generator: A back-up power supply is important to compensate for weather patterns which might otherwise disrupt your array’s collection.

Learning Styles of Boys

Learning Styles of Boys
I am a firm believer in different styles of learning. For instance, are you one of those people that has to read something for yourself rather than have someone read to you? If so, you are probably more of a visual, or possibly auditory learner. When you are trying to commit something to memory, do you find yourself pacing around? Kinesthetic learner. Now, these are very simple examples, and no where near complete, but just an illustration. Everyone learns differently.
Boys and girl have different learning styles. Not that they CAN’T have similarities, but in general, boys and girls acquire information differently. Well, wouldn’t most people know that anyway? Our schools certainly haven’t shown that they understand it. We know that men and women think differently and excel in different areas, so wouldn’t it make sense to think the same about young boys and girls?
The site, <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.boysandschools.com/index.php”>Boys and Schools:Improving the Health, Education, and Well-Being of Boys</a>, has a wealth of information for parents of boys. I encourage you to visit and read some of their articles if you are a parent of a boy. A few of the most interesting items are the fact that the increased level of testosterone in boys cause them to be more aggressive, competitive, assertive, and self reliant than girls; girls hear better and teachers may need to use louder voices to reach boys; neurotransmitters in the brain differ between boys and girl, showing a clear difference in how boys and girls process information. Boys don’t do as well in reading as girls, but excel at math skills and other spatial type skills.
So, even from this short list, doesn’t it make sense that if boys were taught to their strengths that they could excel at a rate equal to girls? Believe me, as a mother of boys, I would love to know that my boys have an equal chance to achieve their very best in school. Yet, I know that my boys are bored. They don’t want to read <span style=”font-style:italic”>Sarah, Plain and Tall</span>, but they love <span style=”font-style:italic;”>Diary of a Wimpy Kid</span>. They love studying about dinosaurs, and learning about pirates of old. Things that are exciting! My oldest scored in the top 5% of 4Th graders in the nation in math, on a particular achievement test, but just average in reading. Give him <span style=”font-weight:bold;”>reading</span> problems in <span style=”font-weight:bold;”>math</span>, and he can do them lickety split.
One way to teach children to their strengths is the use of educational technology. Using computers and software in the classroom. Allowing testing on the computer, creating book reports using PowerPoint presentations, playing computer games to teach math concepts. Honestly, in this digital age I am really surprised that it is not more common. Our schools are still using textbooks that look just like the ones <span style=”font-style:italic;”>I</span> used as a kid. Give them a CD-ROM to use at school, or at home, with animations, or real video. Let them write science reports on the Discovery Channel show, Man vs. Wild, or One Way Out. I can’t tell you how much my boys have learned about animals and the outdoors from Bear Grylls, and energy and momentum from Jonathan Goodwin. And, how about the Planet Earth series? On <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://tlc.discovery.com/”>TLC</a>, there are lots of things to be learned about society, cooking, and even fitness. I know that these are things that they will remember for many years! It is exciting and interesting to them.
Using online learning games is a great tool for children of any age. They are fun and it may not even seem like they are “learning”. For years I have played games online with my children. My 3 year old loves alphabet games, counting games, and even spelling games. My oldest, 10 years old, still likes to go on sites and build virtual robots or building, creating cities, or even dinosaur environments. Our 8 year old likes to do virtual puzzles. They are all learning! The concepts that are presented are things like same/different, big/small, mirror images, different types of environments, among many others.
I just get really frustrated that the American educational system is so far behind the world. We don’t use the wonderful resources that are available to us. Okay, I know that not every classroom has a computer for every child. But, there is usually a computer lab available, some students have their own, and most teachers have at least one computer in their rooms. Find new and fun ways to utilize the technology that is available. Be flexible in how you will accept work that is to be turned in. I have heard from teachers time and time again, “but, it’s not fair to let one student do their work one way, and others another way”. If you are allowing it because it fits their needs more specifically, how is that not fair? Parents don’t treat their children all the same. Employees are not treated all them same, some make more money for one reason or another. <span style=”font-weight:bold;”>There is no fair or not fair</span>. Just equal, but different, opportunities. What works best for each individual.
How can we tolerate the fact that our boys are being allowed to fall behind, when the fix would be so easy to achieve?
